Welcome 2012!

It seems as if it has become a tradition because this is the 3rd year we have been invited by my friend Bonnie to bring in New Years Eve with her and her brothers (The Avett Brothers) - this year they were at the Bi-Lo Center and it was a bit different from the past because of the set up back stage so we actually sat in the audience to watch the show. It was a phenomenal show as always...such talent!

One afternoon we made an octopus out of an empty gallon of milk, strips of a cereal box and finger paint...

Hanging out at Great Grammie and Poppies house in Spartanburg...

McKenna being silly with Grandma...

A couple silly sequences of the girls hanging out one morning...

Kaia has become quite the social bug like her big sis. Each week they are growing and changing so much. Lately McKenna has been articulating her thoughts with more complexity. She says stuff like, " Mommy! I have a really great idea...Maybe we can go play outside on our park and then go jump on the trampoline!"

As a mother who happens to have a big passion for art, I want to be careful that I don't ever put an expectation onto my children to be the same...I want them to find out what their loves, passions, gifts and desires are...I want it to be a journey for them. I want Taylor and myself to be a part of the process that helps them with the discovery and then helps them hone in on what they are called to. We are all created to be individuals with our own God given strengths and I'm excited to see what each of theirs are. I was a little taken back the other day (and actually coincidentally got this on video) when McKenna had asked to paint and in the middle of painting she exclaims, "I love being an artist!" - Hummm...I'm not sure what it will end up looking like but I do see God starting to reveal creativity into her also...Some of the things she has said over the month I actually started writing down as I wanted to be sure to remember them for this blog! Here they are...words out of McKenna's mouth...
"Mommy, I want to eat my banana like a hamburger" - (Translation: I don't want you to cut it into pieces, I want to hold it)
"Look! My grapes are rainbows!" (Translation: I cut the grapes in halves and the way it was laying on the plate was an arch)
She continues to tell me that her covers are mountains and valleys. She will pile her stuffed animals in a clump under the comforter so it is raised really high.

Kaia isn't far behind...she has quickly gotten her own voice and lets you know what she needs and wants by pointing, grunting and trying to speak. She has recently all of a sudden gotten a big appetite for learning...she brings books over to us to read to her, she points at things and wants you to tell her what it is. She is so stinkin' silly...hummm...wonder where she gets that from?

McKenna loved her new camera...

This year I took McKenna and Kaia to pick a gift to give their dad. We got him a new cup to carry his coffee in as he goes to work in the morning. McKenna picked out the color and was so excited to give it to him. Also, took her to pick out a gift for Kaia one day when it was just me and her. She picked out a princess puzzle...when we got home I let her help me try to wrap the gifts she had picked out. She was SO proud and excited about them. When Kaia woke up from her nap, she took Kaia over to see the gift she had wrapped for her and when Taylor got home she did the same thing. It was really neat to see how genuinely excited she was about giving and how she was able to feel apart of it.

Gingerbread house we made with lots of clay and craft rocks...Kaia still being a toddler slept longer stretches of time, but next year she will be able to join us full force in all the activities!
